1871. Marshall's Quay is adjacent to Shadwell Street which ran behind the buildings and quays at the north end of the peninsula. Elizabeth is living at No.25. Also noted at No 21 is Robert Ridley and family. We presume this is Elizabeth's in-law family, an idea reinforced by the residence of with them of 18 year old nephew William Nosworthy.

    • James Nessworthy, age 21, bachelor, residing at 40 Wellington St., a baker, son of Robert Nessworthy, boat builder, married Ellen Clark, age 20, spinster, residing at 8 Eastborne ?, daughter of Thomas Clarke, a fitter. They were married on 25 December 1895 at St. Aiden's Parish Church, South Shields, Durham. Both signed the register as did the witnesses, Elizabeth Nesworthy and Robert Ainsley.

      (1) One would make the assumption that the witness, Elizabeth Nessworthy, was James' mother. Nevertheless, the presence of Robert Ainsley as the other witness might change that. There was a marriage between Robert Ainsley and Elizabeth Nesworthy in 1896; this Elizabeth most likely being James' sister, based on the 1901 census. Therefore, the witness might have been James' sister and her intended husband, rather than his mother.
