    Wanstead Infant Orphan Asylum
    Wanstead Infant Orphan Asylum
Built under the direction of Congregational Minister, Andrew Reed, the asylum was set up to provide for fatherless children without other means of support. Children were admitted by ‘election’ by local voters. Up to 600 children could bge housed at any one time. It later became the Royal Wanstead School and then after its closure in 1971 the building is now used as Snaresbrook Crown Court.
