  	He was an Able Seaman serving aboard the steam ship 'Thurso' which was lost at sea. It had sailed from the Tyne on February 10th 1894 with a cargo of coal bound for Hamburg, Germany and was never seen again. Two months later bodies and wreckage were washed ashore on the Jutland coast of Denmark. The ship was owned by Thomas, Elliott and Co., Newcastle. It had been built in Sunderland in 1871. It carried a crew of thirteen.
